Wolves At Risk

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011

As an advocate of animal rights and a believer that our natural world is a sacred space for all beings, I want to give you a heads up about another beautiful endangered species.  We are stewards of this planet and as such owe it to our fellow wilderness creatures to respect them.
When we disrespect them, we do the same to ourselves so I urge you to reconsider and help this most valuable cause.

There is a Representative by the name of  Mike Simpson (R-Idaho)  who is advocating this very week to remove Gray Wolves in Idaho and Montana from the Endangered Species Act (ESA). This plan he puts forth will endanger America’s Gray Wolves. It also violates your right to hold the government accountable for decisions made on wildlife. This step by Simpson ignores the ESA’s dependency on sound science.

In addition, other representatives have jumped on the ESA and the Gray Wolf band wagon. H.R. 509 and H.R. 510 have been introduced by Representative Denny Rehberg (R-Montana). It is H.R. 509 that exempts Gray Wolves outright from the provisions of the ESA, while H.R. 510 creates an ESA exemption for wolves within Idaho and Montana giving those states exclusive management over wolves within their respective borders.

The ESA is one of America’s most important environmental laws. The gutting of the ESA and the complete removal of the Gray Wolf from protection is a dangerous plan that is likely to create dire consequences. It harms the future of wolves and sets a precedent for other at-risk species.

Show you care by telling your U.S. representative you are against any amendment to remove Gray Wolves from the Endangered Species Act. Also do not let anyone change the law as it now stands. Contact the ASPCA Advocacy Center online to email your representative now. Nature has a plan for all creatures and they are all an important part of that mosaic. Stand up for those creatures who cannot do it for themselves. Thanks for listening.
